Colour editing and connotations

This is my latest edit of my video where i have began to develop the colours within various clips to highlight and support the narrative throughout the video. During this editing process i have reduced the saturation for all the clips featuring connor when he is younger clips where elodie alone; these clips now appear completely black and white, where as the clips in present day with David and some when he is with elodie are a reduced saturation though not black and white. When i first made these changes the clips in the present day were the original colours though they seemed too much of a contrast and as the lighting continuity wasnt perfect i chose to reduce the colour.

Above is a screen shot of my film being edited in final cut, if the arrow is visible this is where the saturation bar is (in the top middle window)

Below is a close up of this window:

  1. Now it makes sense. By FAR the best edit you've done, everything is slotting into place with regards narrative. The time difference is clear, the looking back is obvious, the vast majority of transitions flow.

I may be asking too much now but is it possible for your software to have half the screen in colour and half black and white? That way the bits where Elodie and your Father feature on screen at the same time can still reflect the different time.

Also whilst I've got you in a bad mood and wishing me dead the line 'I'm your today' would fit perfectly with the slow mo out the door shot of Elodie at the start. This slight tweak would allow you to slow down the editing when your Father sees Elodie and Connor in the court yard as that feels to slow. You could also slow down the neck kiss so we don't see the walk away bit where Elodie doesn't seem too much in love with Connor.

It may just be you tube but the text at the bottom is off screen, also give yourself credit and include directed by as well as a fictional record label.

    Well done Anna.
